Katrina and mum Noela have been training at Fernwood Maroochydore together since March.
Inspired by her daughter’s incredible fitness journey, Noela decided to join to prioritise her own health and fitness, and they have loved seeing each other on the gym floor. Read their story.
“When I joined Fernwood, I was at the start of a health and fitness journey. I knew it was time to change things up and incorporate some exercise so that I could really commit to reaching my goals,” says Katrina.
“Since joining, I have been transformed! I’m still a work in progress, but I am fit, I am strong and I am capable. In just over two years I have lost in excess of 60kg.”
“Katrina is my inspiration,” says Katrina's mother Noela.
“Watching her transform has made me so very proud of her and really shows that you can do anything you put your mind to with a good mindset, commitment and determination.
“Katrina is a busy mum juggling work and family with two growing boys and I’m also busy helping with grandkids and my elderly mum. Getting some time together at the gym is fun for us both and a good time to catch-up because sometimes life just gets in the way.”
“Mum has recently joined so we have only been gym buddies for a couple of months,” says Katrina.
“It was a complete surprise as it wasn’t something that I thought interested her, but to know she has given her health and fitness some priority makes me proud of her.”
“We do our warm ups together mostly. Katrina is a lot fitter and stronger so there is no way I could keep up with what she is doing at the gym,” says Noela.
“For me it isn’t a race, it’s about making a change for the better. Getting to work out with my daughter is a bonus because we get to encourage each other and have a bit of fun along the way.”
“I get a real kick out of being in the gym with Mum,” says Katrina.
"Knowing she has watched my transformation from outside of the gym was one thing but for her now to see what I do inside the gym makes me feel good.”
“There are no rules that say you have to be equal in fitness levels to workout with your mum or daughter. Just being there to encourage and support each other, and having fun along the way is enough!
“Working out together is creating memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime. I know I am making those memories and it’s pretty special.”
