On her challenge goals...
I was hoping to reach a healthy weight, one which I haven’t been since I was 12 years old. For years I had only ever dared to dream of it, but because of my challenge success last year I knew it was finally a realistic goal. I also wanted to complete the Brisbane 5km Colour Run, which fell on the last day of the challenge. Completing weekly fitness tests and reaching small goals I had set for myself – from using a heavier kettlebell, to being able to do a proper burpee, an extra push-up, run faster on the treadmill or even try a new class – were such high points. Seeing and feeling how much my strength and fitness level continuously improved was wonderful.
On a positive mindset...
When I started I put myself in a strong, positive mindset so when something disheartening happened I was able to put a positive spin on it and move forward. I never once felt or said “I can’t do this”.
On challenge life changes...
Being overweight my entire life and continuously yo-yo dieting has left me with excess skin from my weight loss that I haven’t been able to tone. The challenge made me feel like my ultimate weight loss goal could be a reality, and I’ve started the process of making an appointment with a surgeon for the end of the year to have the excess skin removed. What an amazing, rewarding, life-changing 12 weeks! I learnt so much about myself both physically and mentally.

“Take accountability – don’t play the blame game, accept where you are and move forward to get where you want to be. And be selfish; you have to remember that sometimes it’s alright to put yourself first.”
