What It's Like
Where it all started
The first Fernwood Women's Health Club opened in Bendigo in 1989. Less than twenty-five years later, we now have over 69 fitness clubs situated in every state of Australia, giving our 68,000 members access to our unique women's-only approach to health and fitness.
Our goal: to give women the confidence they need to succeed in all they do. Seeing our members achieve their goals, and hearing their amazing stories, inspires us to continue delivering world-class health clubs and programs to women across Australia.
What you can expect
There's no need to feel apprehensive when you first step foot inside a Fernwood club. We’ll be there to guide you every step of the way during your first 28 days in the club, and online. As a new Fernwood member, you’ll receive our revolutionary new online 28 Day Breakthru as part of your membership. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about weight loss, nutrition, mindset and exercise. So if you’re a beginner, even better – we’ll show you how to get it right from the start!
On your first visit you’ll meet with your Fitness Coach who will help you set some really solid goals and create an action plan for you to work towards during your first 28 days. We’ll also book you in for a cardio and strength training workshop, to get you feeling confident on the gym floor. As you begin to get comfortable, start trying different group fitness classes and trying new machines – after a couple of weeks you’ll feel like a regular.
During the first week, you might experience a few muscle aches and pains. That's normal – you'll be using muscles you may not have worked for some time. Just take it at your own pace and remember to have a rest day now and then. Try all the different cardio machines, take your time exploring all the resistance machines, and don't forget to check out the group fitness timetable. A yoga class might be just what you need to soothe those aching muscles!
By the end of the first month, you'll know exactly what you're doing and will have hopefully met some new gym buddies. Keep things interesting by trying different classes, mixing up your workouts and challenging yourself. If you're not feeling confident in what you're doing, or need some extra motivation, book a few sessions with a Personal Trainer – they're always available to give your workout an extra boost!
By scheduling in your gym sessions and making them part of your weekly routine, you'll give yourself the best shot at reaching your health goals and feeling on top of the world!
